A container spreader is a piece of equipment used in cargo handling at ports and terminals. It is used to lift and move shipping containers from a truck or train onto a container ship or vice versa. The spreader attaches to the container and is then lifted by a crane or other heavy-duty equipment. The spreader can also be equipped with wheels or other means of movement to allow it to travel along the container ship or train as it moves containers around. It works by gripping the top of the container and moving it to the desired location. Some spreaders also have the ability to rotate the container to align it with the ship or train.
