Core spun sewing threads are made by wrapping a staple polyester or cotton wrapper around a continuous filament bundle of polyester fibers during spinning and then plying these yarns into a thread.
A core spun thread is a strong thread that is also very durable and has exceptional sewability. It is recommended for outdoor performance, sportswear, woven outerwear and fashion jackets, jeans and leather products.
It has high strength, low fineness and is suitable for a wide range of applications such as underwear, shirts, swimming costumes, blouses, towels, knitwear, women's and men's garments, sportswear, blankets and bed linen. It is also used for manufacturing button holes and is ideal for the sewing of lounge suits, skirts, worksuits and sports gear - rucksacks and sleeping bags.
Besides its sewability, the main advantage of core spun threads is that they have a better handle to the sewn seam. This helps to produce fewer restitched seams during sewing, and the stitches remain intact when the garment is dry-cleaned or washed.
The process of spinning the thread starts by taking a small amount of fiber, and twisting it gently in a clockwise motion until you have about 12''-18'' of thread. You can then draft out the rest of the fibers, or spin them on your bobbin wheel until you have the desired length.
The threads are then treated to set the twist and convert it into a hank form for the wet processing treatment. The threads are then cross wound on a spool, cop or king spool depending on the required length.
